SINGAPORE GP 3RD PRACTICE SESSION:
NORRIS LEADS, RUSSELL SECOND
In the 3rd practice session of the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix, Lando Norris finished in first place, with George Russell second and Oscar Piastri third.
The 3rd practice session of the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix began under partly cloudy conditions. Due to rain before the session, the track had low grip. Aston Martin drivers were the first to take to the track, but they only completed reconnaissance laps. A red flag was brought out due to a lizard on the track, and the track was cleared. After approximately 12 minutes, the red flag ended, and the session resumed.
Most of the drivers opted for medium compound tires when they went out on track, while the Sauber drivers chose soft tires. After the first laps, Verstappen, Norris, Hulkenberg, Piastri, and Russell made up the top five.
At the midway point of the practice session, Leclerc was leading with a time of 1:31.525, followed by Verstappen, Norris, Hamilton, and Russell.
With about 20 minutes left in the session, Leclerc, Sainz, Verstappen, Norris, and Hamilton made up the top five. At this point, the drivers began switching to soft tires and started running laps aimed at qualifying simulations.
The first timed lap on soft tires came from Russell with a 1:30.125, placing the British driver at the top. He was followed by Piastri, 0.306 seconds behind, and Hamilton, 0.739 seconds behind.
Verstappen then set a lap on soft tires, placing him third, 0.415 seconds behind Russell.
Shortly after, Norris took the top spot from Russell with a time of 1:29.646.
At the end of the session, no one was able to beat Norris’ time, so Lando Norris finished the session in first place.
Russell, Piastri, Verstappen, Leclerc, Sainz, Hamilton, Albon, Colapinto, and Alonso completed the top ten.
The Singapore Grand Prix qualifying session will begin at 16:00 local time (TSI).
