She’s had enough! Spanish national football player Jennifer Hermoso (34) has published an audio message on her Instagram account that she received on social media. The content: disgusting and full of hate!
In the audio message, a male voice asks, “Do you have a penis or what?”, insulting the star striker of the Mexican club Tigres with comments like “You have an ass like a door, disgusting” and calling her “abnormal.”
The 2023 World Cup winner didn’t comment on the recording—it speaks for itself. However, by publishing it, Hermoso wants to show the kind of hatred people face online today.
Last year, the Spanish footballer had already been the target of hostility and even death threats! After the 1-0 World Cup final win against England, the then-president of the Spanish Football Federation, Luis Rubiales (47), had given her an unsolicited kiss on the mouth during the medal ceremony. The scene caused a global uproar—and had consequences! Rubiales was forced to resign, and FIFA banned him from football for three years. Hermoso filed a lawsuit against him for sexual assault.
Public reaction wasn’t entirely supportive. In the Spanish edition of “GQ” magazine, Hermoso talked about the uncomfortable aftermath of the kiss scandal: “I’ll never get used to the fact that I received death threats. I had to deal with the consequences of an act I didn’t provoke or choose. Those weeks were very tough,” said the striker.
To cope with the kiss scandal and its aftermath, Hermoso sought psychological help. However, she never lost her passion and love for football—not even in the face of hate and hostility.
