Former Footballer Dies in Flood Disaster

Tragic news continues to emerge from Spain, which has been hit by severe flooding. Former footballer José Castillejo, a 28-year-old Valencia Academy graduate, has been reported dead in the flood.

The heavy rains affecting Spain have caused the deadliest flood disaster since 1973, with over 200 people losing their lives. The football world was also shaken by the news.

STATEMENTS FROM VALENCIA AND ELDENSE

In a statement, Spanish club Valencia announced the passing of 28-year-old José Castillejo, a former player from their academy. Eldense, where he also played in the past, shared condolences as well. José Castillejo retired from his career in 2020.

LATEST UPDATES ON THE DISASTER

According to the Operational Control Center, which operates under the autonomous government of Valencia, the bodies of 202 people have been found so far in the region.

The second most affected area, Castile-La Mancha, reported three deaths, bringing the total fatalities from the floods in Spain to 205. The Spanish State Meteorological Agency has described the disaster as “the deadliest natural disaster in Spain’s history” and the “disaster of the century.” Search and rescue efforts are ongoing for the many people still missing.
