USWNT Abroad: Horan, Fox, and Albert Gear Up for Exciting 2024-25 Season in Europe

As the NWSL postseason approaches, women’s soccer in Europe is just kicking off for what promises to be an exciting 2024-25 campaign. With major competitions like the Women’s Super League, French Division 1 Féminine, and UEFA Women’s Champions League underway, fans of the U.S. Women’s National Team (USWNT) have plenty to look forward to, with eight American stars representing clubs across Europe.

Lindsey Horan, Emily Fox, and Korbin Albert were among the USWNT players on Emma Hayes’ gold-winning Olympic roster at Paris 2024, but they’re far from the only Americans making waves abroad. Veteran midfielder Kristie Mewis and teenage sensation Lily Yohannes are also part of the contingent of USWNT stars looking to leave their mark on the European stage.

Emily Fox – Arsenal

After joining Arsenal in January, Emily Fox is preparing for her first full season with the Gunners. Arsenal won the League Cup last season and secured a Champions League spot with a third-place finish in the Women’s Super League. Fox will play a key role in their bid for more silverware and a stronger domestic campaign this year.

Lindsey Horan – Lyon

Lindsey Horan continues to be an integral player for French powerhouse Lyon. Last season, she earned a Player of the Year nomination and a spot in the Team of the Season, helping Lyon secure another national title. The club’s goals for 2024-25 are clear—retain the league title and make a deep run in the Champions League, with Horan at the heart of their efforts.

Catarina Macario – Chelsea

It’s been a challenging summer for Catarina Macario, who missed out on the USWNT’s Olympic success due to injury. Her recovery has limited her involvement in Chelsea’s preseason, including the U.S. tour and their final friendly against Feyenoord. However, Macario is making good progress and is expected to return to action soon, with hopes of playing a significant role for the Blues this season.

With other stars like Kristie Mewis and Lily Yohannes also making waves, the 2024-25 season promises to be one of growth and opportunity for USWNT players in Europe, who will look to continue their strong international form at club level.
