Szczesny Stands Resolutely on Personal Decisions
Wojciech Szczesny has made it abundantly evident that he intends to keep smoking after returning from retirement to join Barcelona in early October. Having been seen smoking multiple times, the former Arsenal goalie has come under fire regarding whether he plans to kick bad practices now he’s back on the field.
Szczesny says he won’t let public opinion shape his personal decisions and stays unrepentant in spite of the criticism.
Szczesny’s Reiteration of Critics’ Comments
Szczesny addressed the issue squarely in an interview with Mundo Deportivo: “There are things in my personal life that I don’t change, and it’s nobody’s business if I smoke. I work twice as hard and feel it has no effect on my on-field performance.”
“I don’t want to set a terrible example. Therefore I don’t smoke in front of children. But if someone pictures me from the trees while I’m smoking, it is on them, not me. My whole life, I have been this way; I am not changing for anyone.”
