Arsenal’s 14-Year-Old Max Dowman Breaks UEFA Youth League Goalscoring Record

Arsenal academy star Max Dowman made history by becoming the youngest player to score in the UEFA Youth League at just 14 years old. Dowman achieved this feat during Arsenal’s 4-1 loss to Atalanta in Bergamo, where he netted his team’s only goal. Despite the defeat, Dowman’s goal broke the previous record held by Youssoufa Moukoko, who had set the mark in 2019 while playing for Borussia Dortmund.

Dowman, who is 14 years, 8 months, and 19 days old, now holds the prestigious record, surpassing Moukoko, who is currently on loan at French side Nice. One of the most promising talents in Arsenal’s academy, Dowman has already made nine appearances for Arsenal’s U18 team this season and has featured for England’s U17 national team during the international break.

Emphasis on Fun and Development

Dowman recently had the opportunity to train with Arsenal’s first team and caught the attention of former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere, who praised the youngster’s talent. Wilshere commented:

“It’s always risky to field such a young player in these kinds of games, but if you’re good enough, your age doesn’t matter. He can become more consistent, but he’s only 14. We need to let him play and enjoy himself while ensuring he gets the necessary development.”
