Jordan Henderson’s Ajax Future ‘Resolved’ Amid Rumors of Return to Sunderland

Jordan Henderson’s future at Ajax has been “resolved,” according to coach Francesco Farioli, after rumors circulated that the former Liverpool captain may rejoin his boyhood team, Sunderland, in the Championship. Henderson has apparently had difficulty adjusting to Amsterdam and has been linked to a spectacular return to England. Henderson joined Ajax less than a year ago following a brief stint with Saudi team Al-Ettifaq.

Farioli, who has assumed a leadership role as captain under the new management, is certain that Henderson will continue with Ajax for the rest of the season despite the reports.

“Jordan is our leader and the one I choose as captain. I don’t think I have to explain how important he is to our team. But that has now been settled, if all goes according to plan. Henderson wants to return Ajax to its rightful place at the top.”

Henderson and Sunderland’s Connections

According to reports, Henderson, who started his professional career with Sunderland before relocating to Liverpool, is considering going back to his old team because he is homesick and wants to be nearer to his family. It seems Henderson will stay in the Netherlands for the time being, though, as Farioli has expressed faith in the midfielder’s dedication to Ajax’s goals in the Europa League and Eredivisie.
