Stanley Johnson enjoys Efes, wants to stay in Istanbul

BasketNews sources indicated that Johnson had been offered to other European teams and was exploring alternative market options.

The 28-year-old American confirmed his commitment to staying with Efes, stating: “I’m very happy here, playing for Efes and living in Istanbul. I don’t plan on leaving anytime soon, God willing,” he replied on X.

Johnson joined the Turkish EuroLeague team on a one-year deal after an NBA career spanning 449 games (104 starts) with the Detroit Pistons, New Orleans Pelicans, Toronto Raptors, Los Angeles Lakers, and San Antonio Spurs, averaging 6.2 points per game.  

In seven EuroLeague appearances for Efes, Johnson has averaged 2.4 points (50.0% 2P, 18.2% 3P), 1.9 rebounds, and a 2.1 PIR in 10 minutes per game, ranking 11th on the team in playing time.  

Johnson was a DNP in EuroLeague Rounds 4, 5, and 8 due to a coaching decision.

He played over 10 minutes in just three games, including finishing with a season-high 5 points in matchups against Baskonia and Fenerbahce.

In the Turkish league, his numbers have been more efficient, with averages of 7.0 points (80.0% FG, 47.4% 3P), 2.4 rebounds, and 6.8 EFF per game.

With six wins in 10 games, Efes sit 9th in the EuroLeague standings.
