Manchester United Parts Ways with Erik ten Hag
Premier League giant Manchester United has announced the separation from head coach Erik ten Hag. The Dutch manager was unable to turn the team’s fortunes around this season, leaving the English club disappointing its fans once again. Following Erik ten Hag’s departure, Ruud van Nistelrooy will temporarily take over as the head coach at Manchester United.
Nistelrooy Takes Over Temporarily
In a statement on the club’s website regarding Erik ten Hag’s departure, it was mentioned, “Erik started his role in April 2022 and won the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024. We are grateful for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him good luck in the future. Following the appointment of Ruud van Nistelrooy as the temporary head coach, a permanent head coach will be appointed with the support of the current coaching staff.”
The Ten Hag Era…
The Dutch coach, who began his tenure at Manchester United on July 1, 2022, served for approximately 28 months. During his time with the club, Ten Hag managed 85 matches in the Premier League, achieving an average of 1.72 points per game. Under his leadership, Manchester United finished 3rd in the 2022-2023 season and 8th last season. However, in this season, with 9 matches remaining, the English team currently sits in 14th place, 12 points behind the leaders.
In the UEFA Europa League, Manchester United has drawn all 3 matches they played this season. Their last draw was against Fenerbahçe in Kadıköy, with a score of 1-1 last Thursday.
Ten Hag led Manchester United to victory in the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024. However, the recent 2-1 loss to West Ham proved to be the last straw, resulting in the club’s decision to part ways with Ten Hag and temporarily appoint Ruud van Nistelrooy.
Manchester United has not claimed the league title since 2013, when they were last champions under Alex Ferguson, marking 11 years without a top finish. Since then, the club has worked with 9 different managers, both temporarily and permanently, failing to achieve the desired success. The club’s most significant achievement during this period was winning the UEFA Europa League under Jose Mourinho in 2017.
