Matt Wallace Retains Four-Shot Lead at European Masters Amid Challenging Conditions

England’s Matt Wallace held on to his four-shot lead at the European Masters, despite battling difficult conditions in the third round at Crans-sur-Sierre in Switzerland. Winds gusting up to 35mph made for a challenging day, sending scores soaring.

Wallace birdied the last hole to complete a three-over round of 73, a significant contrast to his impressive performance on Friday, where he shot 11 strokes lower. He remains at 11 under, with Spain’s Alfredo Garcia-Heredia his closest competitor, trailing by four shots.

“Where do I start?” Wallace told Sky Sports when asked about the conditions. “Brutal, hard. Really hard.”

England’s Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston and Sweden’s Henrik Norlander are tied for third, one shot behind Garcia-Heredia. Wallace, who had been bogey-free in the first two rounds, endured six bogeys on Saturday as the wind impacted scoring across the field.

Italy’s Edoardo Molinari, tied for fifth and six shots off the pace, was one of only three players to finish under par for the day.

England’s Jordan Smith fell nine shots off the lead after a difficult round of 77, which included a two-shot penalty for an incorrect drop on the par-five 12th hole. The penalty turned a bogey six into a triple-bogey eight, and Smith dropped four more shots over the final three holes.
