Beşiktaş to Face Ajax

Ryan Babel shared his thoughts on the upcoming UEFA Europa League clash between Beşiktaş and Ajax with the Dutch media. He also made a confession about Gedson Fernandes.

WHAT HAPPENED? Before the UEFA Europa League match between Beşiktaş and Ajax, Ryan Babel, who has played for both clubs, discussed the encounter with Dutch media. Babel revealed that he had recommended Gedson Fernandes to Ajax two years ago.

WHAT WAS SAID? Ryan Babel said, “Ajax has a lot of creative players who can create action upfront and offer depth in the game. They also have a very stable midfield structure. One special player in the midfield is Gedson Fernandes, who I have good relations with. I recommended him to Ajax about two years ago because I thought he would fit in very well there.”

Babel further evaluated the Ajax-Beşiktaş match, saying, “If Beşiktaş realizes they can do something, a great energy will emerge, and Ajax might struggle. The first 15 minutes are crucial for Ajax. If they dominate the ball and the stadium gets behind them, they will play with great energy and courage. In this sense, it’s good for Ajax to play their first Europa League match in front of their home crowd. If this match were played in Turkey, it would be a different story.”

Comparing the Dutch Eredivisie with the Turkish Super Lig, Babel added, “At Ajax, if you win 3-0, people often think you should have won 6-0. There’s always criticism. In Turkey, everything is black and white. When you win, no matter how, you’re the best. If you lose, they think everyone should be fired.”
