Honda and Alpine Commit Procedural Breaches of Budget Cap

The FIA has announced that Honda and Alpine have committed procedural breaches regarding the F1 power unit manufacturers’ budget cap.

After completing its review of the cost cap set for Formula 1 power unit manufacturers, the FIA revealed that Honda and Alpine had violated procedures but emphasized that neither manufacturer had exceeded the spending limit.

The FIA clarified that these breaches were related to procedural matters and not to overspending.

In its statement, the FIA said: “Although both Alpine Racing SAS and HRC have committed procedural breaches, they have not exceeded the cost cap. Both parties have acted in good faith and are cooperating with the FIA to resolve the situation.”

The FIA acknowledged that this was a complex first year for the new financial regulations and that a “Accepted Breach Agreement” (ABA) would be proposed to reach a settlement with the two manufacturers.

The penalties for Honda and Alpine are likely to be financial, but if the FIA identifies mitigating factors, the penalty could be waived. Conversely, if there are aggravating circumstances, sporting penalties may be imposed.
