Aston Martin has denied that sharing a wind tunnel with Mercedes is the reason for their poor performance.
Mike Krack rejected using the shared wind tunnel as an “excuse” for the team’s struggles.
In the 2023 season, Aston Martin secured seven podium finishes in the first 18 races, but this season, they haven’t achieved any podiums. The team currently ranks fifth in the championship, with their best result being a fifth place finish.
When asked if sharing the wind tunnel was the cause of their poor form, Krack replied, “I think that would be an easy excuse.”
He added, “We have another team using the same wind tunnel for less time, so it’s not an excuse.”
Krack explained that the shared wind tunnel is not a long-term issue for Aston Martin. The team’s state-of-the-art wind tunnel is expected to be operational by January 1, when aero testing for the 2026 cars can begin.
“If you’re a team in the process of building, it’s not just about having the wind tunnel but also the technology, methodology, and testing approach. The same applies to simulation,” Krack noted.
“We’ve been a customer team for many years, and we had to build all of this in parallel. If that’s the path you’ve chosen, you shouldn’t use it as an excuse later on,” he concluded.
